Question
Male accessory ducts and glands are:
Male accessory ducts include vas efferentia, epididymis, vas deferens and rete testis that collectively work to store sperm and to transfer them outside through the urethra during ejaculation.
Male accessory glands include seminal vesicles, prostate gland and bulbourethral gland, also called cowper's gland, that collectively function to produce seminal plasma to semen.
Seminal vesicle secretion gives the major portion of seminal plasma around 60% and alkaline pH is maintained by it.
Prostate gland contributes 30% volume to seminal plasma and adds citrate.
Cowper’s gland contributes a very small volume to the seminal plasma.
The secretion of these glands make the sperms rich in fructose and calcium.
The above mentioned points give the major functions of male accessory ducts and glands.
