(i) Tidal Volume (TV)
- TheVolume of air inspired or expired during a normal respiration is called Tidal Volume.
- A healthy man can inspire or expire approximately 6000 to 8000 ml/min of air.
(ii) Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV)
- The extra volume of air, a person can inspire by a forcible inspiration is called as Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV).
- It is about 2500-3000 ml.
(iii) Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV)
- The extra volume of air, a person can expire by a forcible expiration is called Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV).
- It is about 1000-1100 ml.
(iv) Residual Volume (RV)
- The volume of air remaining in the lungs even after a forcible expiration is called Residual Volume (RV).
- Its value averages between 1100 ml and 1200 ml.
