Question
It is considered as control centre of a cell because the nucleus contains most of the cell's genetic material, which is found inside as the multiple long linear DNA molecules in complex with a large variety of proteins such as histones to form chromosomes. The genes within these chromosomes make up the cell's nuclear genome. The function of the nucleus is to maintain the integrity of these genes and to control the activities of the cell by regulating gene expression. It brings about replication when needed. The nucleus maintains the growth by directing the synthesis of structural proteins and also regulates cell metabolism by directing the synthesis of functional enzymes (proteins). Nucleus develops genetic variations that contribute to evolution.
