Greenwich mean time is 5 hours and 30 minutes behind Indian standard time.
For example-
3.00 am in GMT is 8.30 am in IST.
Greenwich mean time is the mean solar time at the royal observatory in Greenwich London, which is counted from midnight. It is the solar time at the 0 degree longitude ( prime meridian).
Indian standard time is 5.30 hours ahead of coordinated universal time(UTC)/ GMT . It is also called the India standard time. IST is based on longitude 82.5 degrees, which passes through Mirzapur, near Allahabad in UP.
