But fungi were having traits that coincide with animalia, plantae kingdom both, there a need was felt to bifurcate the kingdoms into five. Robert Whitaker proposed Five kingdom classification, which includes five kingdoms namely-Monera, protista, fugi, plantae and animalia.
These kingdoms are nothing but the highest taxonomic ranks.. Nutrition, cellular organization, reproduction and cell type are certain characteristics used to to classify these five kingdoms.
