Question

The sex organs in bryophytes are multicellular. The male sex organ is called antheridium that produces biflagellate anthrozoids. The female sex organ is called archegonium; it is flask shaped and produces a single egg. The antherozoids through water come in contact with egg producing zygote. Zygotes do not undergo reduction division immediately, instead produce multicellular sporophyte, which is not free living, but remain attached to photosynthetic gametophyte to take nutrition. Some cells of sporophyte undergo reduction division to produce haploid spores which germinate into gametophyte.
