How does absorption of digestion products occurs

Absorption occurs by

(i) Active mechanism, against concentration gradient, with the expenditure of

energy and

(ii) Passive mechanisms like:

(a) osmosis

(b) facilitated diffusion and

(c) simple diffusion

• Glucose, amino acids, and Na⁺ are absorbed actively.

• Water is absorbed by osmosis.

• Absorption of fructose is by facilitated diffusion.

• Certain small soluble molecules are absorbed by simple diffusion following concentration gradient.
