The biogas plant is made up of the following components:-
1) Slurry inlet or charge pit: This is where the slurry enters the digester.
Cattle dung, farm waste, and organic waste are used as raw materials.
2) Digester: a cylindrical, airtight tank with a floating metal gas holding with a gas exit and a pit for sludge collection.
Organic wastes are solubilized into monomers, which are simpler compounds (solubilisation).
Fermenting bacteria convert monomers to organic acid (acidogenesis).
Acetic acid is the most common organic acid produced.
Methanogens become active and operate on microbial digesting components to produce methane gas (methanogenesis).
3) The outlet is made up of sludge that is used as manure.
This procedure produces methane gas, which is utilized for cooking and illumination.
