Tehri Dam is located on the Bhagirathi River, Uttarakhand. With a height of 261 metres, Tehri Dam is India's highest dam and the world's ninth tallest dam. The first phase of the high rock and earth-fill embankment dam was finished in 2006, and the remaining two phases are now under construction. The dam's water reservoir is used for irrigation, municipal water supply, and hydroelectric power generation of 1,000 MW.
