Question

Writing a sentence in Indirect speech means reporting the directly said statement.

Here, the given sentence is - He said to me, "I cannot help you at present because I am myself in difficulty."

Since the given sentence is in past tense so while changing it into indirect speech, ‘cannot’ will be replaced by ‘could not’, ‘I’ will be replaced by ‘he’, the inverted commas will be removed and the comma will be replaced by ‘that’ here.

Hence, the indirect speech of the given sentence will be, “He said that he could not help me at present because he was himself in difficulty.”

The correct answer option is B i.e., He said that he could not help me at present because he was himself in difficulty
