Full form of IMA

Indian Military Academy is the full form of IMA. IMA is a highly respected officer training academy of the Indian Army. The motto of IMA is Wisdom & Valor (Veerta Aur Vivek).

Below are the standard examinations through which an individual can enter into the IMA.

  • Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE) followed by SSB examinations
  • NDA Graduates
  • Graduates of the Army Cadet College (ACC)
  • TGC (Technical Graduate Course)
  • The trainee candidate is recognized as a Gentleman Cadet (GC) in the IMA.

 History of IMA

  • The IMA was founded in 1932.
  • The first batch of IMA had 40 male Gentleman Cadets (GCs) as trainees. These cadets were known as "Pioneers".
  • The first commander of the IMA was Brigadier General L.P. Collins.
  • The training academy is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in Dehradun, Uttarakhand.
  • The academy occupies the area of ??more than 1400 acres of the land.
  • Training is provided only to the male candidates in the IMA.

How to join IMA?

These are the methods you can use to connect to IMA:

  1. CDSE Exam – You have to appear for CDSE written exam, pass SSB and clear medical exams. The exam is held twice a year during March/April and September/October.
  2. Technical Graduate Course – BE/B Tech final year students can appear for TGC exam. Training during training is 1 year. Expect ads during May/June and November/December.
  3. NDA Exam – Pass out Class XII students can appear in NDA Exams. After getting selected in NDA and choosing Army as your preference, you will undergo three years of training in Pune and one year in Dehradun.
