Full Form of CRET

The full form of CRET is the Combined Research Entrance Test, also known as AU CRET ( Allahabad University Combined Research Entrance Test).

The  AU CRET (Allahabad University Combined Research Entrance Test) is an entrance examination held by Allahabad University for admission to various Post Graduate courses such as M.A., M.Sc., M.Com., MPEd, and so on. Every year, the exam is held in June and July.

AU CRET also selects candidates for the University's Doctor of Philosophy (D. Phil) programme. D.Phil courses are available at the University in various subjects such as Commerce, Biochemistry, Environmental Studies, Nutritional Science, Sociology, and Urdu.

To apply, candidates must complete the online application form on the official website. However, applicants must read the eligibility criteria before applying online. The exam consists of two levels: Level 1 is a written test (offline mode), and Level 2 is an interview/group discussion/presentation.

AU CRET includes both objective and subjective questions. These questions cover topics such as general awareness, research aptitude, and the subject of study. If candidates pass the written exam, they will be invited to an interview to confirm their admission to the course.

Eligibility Criteria of AU CRET

  • To be eligible for consideration, prospective candidates must meet several criteria. First, they must hold a master's degree (or a degree recognised by the University as equivalent to that) in a relevant subject from the University or any other university or institution recognised by it.
  • In addition, a candidate must have passed the postgraduate exam with at least 55% or equivalent for all UR candidates and 50% for all OBC/SC/ST/PH candidates. 
  • Moreover, candidates must have a minimum average score of 54% (or the Grade/Grade Point) throughout their academic career for General/OBC candidates or 49% for SC/ST/PH candidates.
  • However, it is essential to note that candidates with a III division or equivalent letter grade/grade point at the graduate and postgraduate levels are not eligible to apply.

AU CRET Interview (Level 2)

Note: A candidate who does not achieve the minimum qualifying marks in each category will be ineligible for level II.

  • After finding themselves eligible for Level 2, including JRFs and CSIR-qualified candidates, candidates must contact the appropriate departments/centres/institutes. Moreover, they will have to complete the University's application form to be considered for admission to the PhD programme.
  • However, it is important to note that admission will only be confirmed based on seat availability and supervisor availability.

Syllabus of AU CRET

  • Paper I will consist of 50 objective-type questions worth two points each, with 50% of the questions from Research Methodology and the other 50% from Subject Specific. 
  • This means that there will be 25 questions from each category. Notably, there will be no negative marking for any of the questions.
  • Moving on to Paper II will consist of subjective type questions with small, medium, and large type answers. 
  • The duration of Papers I and II will be 30 minutes and 120 minutes, respectively, and they will carry total marks of 100 and 200, respectively. 
  • Hence, both papers together will have a total of 300 points. It is worth mentioning that both papers will be presented simultaneously.
