Full form of BCCI

Board of Control for Cricket India is the full form of BCCI. It is generally the governing body of cricket in India. It is completely responsible for Indian cricket at international and domestic level. It is the richest cricket board in the world and has a great reputation across all the cricket boards around the world.

He controls the entire operation of Indian cricket. The board selects players for the Indian men's and women's cricket teams for their international matches. There is an officially elected selection committee for the BCCI which selects the squads and coaching staff for all Indian teams.

The BCCI works closely with various cricket boards to organize international matches for India for both domestic and international venues. The BCCI also operates the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, a high performance cricket center for select players in the Indian team. She is also responsible for obtaining sponsorships and deals to run their finances.

Evolution of BCCI

The history of BCCI is divided into three phases-

Early stage

In 1912, the Indian cricket team sponsored and led by the Maharaja of Patiala visited England for the first time. In 1926, two representatives from India attended the Imperial Cricket Conference, now called the International Cricket Council. The result of the meeting leads to the India vs England cricket series in India.

The Maharaja of Patiala and others requested the inclusion of the ICC. Gilligan gave an assurance which resulted in a meeting in Delhi on 21 November 1927. The meeting was attended by representatives from various parts of India. As a result, the Board of Control for Cricket in India was formed on 10 December 1927. BCCI was usually registered under Tamil Nadu Companies Registration Act in December 1928 and operates as an independent body. The first president and secretary was RE Grant Govan and Anthony de Mello. In the year 1932, the Indian cricket team toured England.

Victory at the 1983 World Cup

In 1983, India participated in the Cricket World Cup held in England and successfully won the World Cup for the first time under the leadership of Kapil Dev. After this victory, BCCI bid to host the World Cup in 1987 and successfully organized it, showing that the board has good organizational skills.

According to Information Commissioner Sridhar Acharyul, BCCI's "Star of India" logo is derived from the British Raj in 1928.

Reforms: 2017 Committee of Administrators

As cricket developed in India, the BCCI was also criticized for its monopolistic practices and suffered from allegations of corruption. On 30 January 2017, the Supreme Court appointed a four-member panel Committee of Administrators – Vinod Rai, Ramachandra Guha, Vikaram Limaye and Diana Edulji to oversee the governance of the BCCI to implement the Lodha Committee reforms headed by Vinod Rai, former CAG of India. Sourav Ganguly is currently the president of BCCI.

On 9 August 2019, the BCCI agreed to anti-doping mechanisms run by the National Anti-Doping Agency. Former Indian cricket team member Sunil Joshi has been appointed as the chairman of the national selection committee by the BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), replacing M. S. K. Prasad in the role.
